Checklist for choosing a CRM or ERP
A list to decide before buying a platform, starting from the process and not the software. For the full context, read the article Enterprise systems architecture: the strategy guide for 2026.
Before comparing platforms
- Diagnose how the real process works today, not the documented one.
- Define what problem the platform must solve.
- Identify who will own the process after implementation.
Functional fit
- Confirm the platform covers your real commercial or operating process.
- Avoid paying for modules you will not use.
- Verify it supports multi-entity or multi-currency operation if applicable.
Integration with your stack
- Confirm integration with accounting and electronic invoicing.
- Review connection with ERP, SAP, telephony, and other systems.
- Verify API, webhooks, and master-data availability.
Data and migration
- Plan migration of customers, history, and pipeline.
- Define data deduplication and validation.
- Confirm who owns each datum after migration.
Total cost
- Add licenses, implementation, and integration, not just the monthly fee.
- Review plan limits and costs for growth or more users.
- Account for support and maintenance costs afterward.
Adoption and support
- Plan training on your process, not generic training.
- Define hypercare after go-live.
- Measure real team adoption, not just the go-live.
Buying a platform is not modernizing: technology is chosen for the case, not the other way around.
